Asirvad Development Foundation (ADF) as part of its charity activities to the community has given priority to eye related diseases in the health sector. In a mutual understanding with Uma Eye Clinic, Annanagar, Chennai, ADF envisages to perform free eye screening and treatment to the deserving poor community in the slums of Chennai city. Vision Foundation, a charitable trust of Uma Eye Clinic has joined hand in hand with ADF and has agreed to conduct eye screening camps at no cost.
The parent company of ADF, Asirvad Microfinance Private Limited (AMPL), Chennai has empowered the lives of over two lakh women across Tamil Nadu by providing financial assistance. It is analyzed that there exists lot of social needs and related issues in their community itself. Hence, ADF foresees to implement its activities primarily targeting the AMPL beneficiaries, their families and further the community at large.
Asirvad Development Foundation’s community services for the deserving poor started in a courteous manner in one of the branch offices of AMPL in chennai. In the morning hours of 04th December 2010, the Managing Trustee of ADF and CMD of AMPL, Mr. S. V. Raja Vaidyanathan by lighting the lamp opened the charity services at Chindadaripet, Chennai. During his brief speech, he enlightened the participants about the purpose and objectives of the foundation and assured the public that the activities of ADF will be purely on charity basis and stressed the community to make good use of ADF’s services.
Headed by Dr. Catherine sheela & Dr. Gayathri, a team of ophthalmologists, optometrists and volunteers, the medical team of Vision Foundation performed eye screening for over 120 beneficiaries. It is agreed by the partner that the free eye screening camps will be conducted on all Saturdays in a regular basis. The Chairman of ADF, Mr. S.V. Raja registered himself as the first beneficiary during the inaugural camp.
